It happens pretty regularly. I’ll be typing something to a client, quickly, without really thinking – and suddenly I realize that “burrard” was replaced with Bernard without me knowing.
I go back, delete delete delete, and painstakingly type burrard – and it replaces it with Bernard again. Argh!!!
I wasted 10 seconds on this about 20 times a day before I decided to make some changes. That’s 23 minutes a week, and about 20 hours per year.
To MAKE auto-correct behave as you want with the words you use most often, follow these steps:
- Grab your iPhone.
- Go to Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> Text Replacement (or “Shortcuts” in the older iOS).
- Hit the plus sign in the top right.
- Type Phrase: “Burrard” with shortcut “burrard”.
- Save.
- Go to a text message and enjoy “burrard” or even “burardd” being auto-corrected to Burrard.
Bonus: It syncs to your Mac if you have the latest OS.
You can also do this with a home address or email address you type often. When I type @@ as the shortcut, my email address pops in there automagically.
