We get this one a lot. “How do I sync my devices? How do I get them to talk? Can you help?”
This is a common and often very frustrating issue for people these days. You have all these amazing gadgets but they just don’t play nice with each other. The manufacturers say it’s easy to get started, but when there’s 6 different gadgets and 30 apps with 17 different logins, it’s a real pain and it seems insurmountable.
So you cope with things half set up and fight with them every day. We get it.
Here are three steps to get things working better and stop wasting so much time dealing with “death by a thousand cuts.”
1. Identify what specific thing is working and what isn’t on each device. Make a little list so you know what you’re dealing with and you can tackle them one at a time. Some common ones are:
- iMessages don’t show up on my iPad but they do on Mac and iPhone. (Helpful link at Lifehacker).
- Dropbox is only working on iPad and Mac, not iPhone. (Helpful link at Dropbox).
- My Gmail account is only on Mac and iPhone but not on iPad. (Link to setting up email from Apple).
- You get the idea. Identify each app or service that isn’t working the way you want.
2. Either Google that, or reply to this email with the question. We’ll send you an article that will help. If there isn’t one then I’ll put it in the queue to write one. We’re master Googlers and happy to send a quick reply no charge.
3. Book a consult where we come to you on your schedule and make it all work smoothly. We can do evenings and weekends so you can be busy making money during the day.
Then – enjoy all the free time and have a Pumpkin Spice Latte on a patio somewhere.
Great post Lucas. I often struggle with syncing all of my devices so I can’t wait to try out some of these tips!
Also looking forward to your services to get my Mac-life running smoothly!
