Exciting News! Apple Pay is now available in Canada!

By May 11, 2016May 26th, 2016People+Technology, Technical Tips

As of yesterday, it is easier than ever for some Canadians to make purchases without having to pull out their debit or credit card!

If you have a debit, or credit card from American Express, ATB, Canadian Tire, CIBC or RBC, then all you have to do is add that card to the Wallet app on your iPhone to be done with the plastic, and pay in-store with a wave of your iPhone or Apple Watch!

WE ARE IN THE FUTURE.

Canada’s other major banks, including BMO and TD Canada Trust will also be joining the service in the coming months, though no exact go-live date is known. Rest assured, we’ll keep you posted!

Adding a card to your Wallet

1) Push on the Wallet App.

2) Select Add Credit or Debit Card.

3) You will be asked to enter your iCloud password before proceeding.

4) The App will now activate your camera, and present a rectangle in which you should position the card in question. The app will automatically read the card information, and confirm or deny for you whether this service is available yet for your card.

Remember: for now only American Express, ATB, Canadian Tire, CIBC or RBC cards will work.

That’s it!

Having the Right Device

In-store Apple Pay is compatible with the below devices, running at least iOS 8.1. If yours is older, maybe it’s time for Macinhome to help with an upgrade!

-iPhone 6
-iPhone 6 Plus
-iPhone SE
-iPhone 6S
-iPhone 6S Plus
-Apple Watch
(paired with iPhone 5 or later, running iOS 8.1 or later)

Once you know that you have the right device, that it’s running a new enough version of Apple’s iOS operating system, and once you’ve added your compatible card to the Wallet app, just open up that app while shopping at any store with contactless pay at the till, and select your card to use it!

Never be caught without your cards again!
